Coronation fails to ignite advance hospitality bookings

Leading discovery and booking platform DesignMyNight and booking software Access Collins have reported that advance bookings for coronation celebrations failed to live up to expectations with numbers significantly below predictions.

Leighanne Bent, Senior Marketing Manager of DesignMyNight commented “After the boost in hospitality reservations that were made for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, the coronation of King Charles III was disappointing with 25% fewer bookings taken across DesignMyNight and Access Collins than the previous year’s Royal celebrations. Numbers were also 17% down on the first May Bank Holiday just a week earlier and it is possible that people chose to make last minute decisions on how to spend the weekend rather than planning ahead.

“With further rail strikes scheduled, this is a big blow for hospitality and the next walkout this Friday (12th May) could disrupt hospitality events, especially those planned to coincide with the Eurovision Song Contest being held in Liverpool. However, this could provide an opportunity for more local events to be well supported, so operators should make sure their parties or occasions are as high profile as possible through website listings and social media posts.”

DesignMyNight provides the first search engine on the market to accommodate queries across the hospitality sector for every kind of venue, enabling potential customers to search and book for bars, restaurants, pubs and clubs in real time. The ‘everything’ search capability will simplify the booking process for every occasion including Eurovision parties and big sporting matches through to last minute after work drinks and everything in-between, offering operators the chance to benefit from last-minute bookings with high conversion rates.
