Do you know a Beer Dad?

More than likely, you do. Meta says there are over 1.2 million males in the UK, self-ascribed as parents with an interest in beer. This is the audience Beer Dad is setting out to influence, with a bigger aim of changing the perception of “beer dads” and providing a much-needed service to all those first-time, old-time, hipster, old fashioned, and classic dads we all know and love, all while thinking responsibly.

Beer Dad was established in 2021 as the modern, online, beer boutique by founder Jamie Percival, a beer judge, beer sommelier, and member of the British Guild of Beer Writers. There is no coincidence that the birth of Beer Dad followed soon after the birth of his first son, motivated by a desire to bring together two of his passions – fatherhood and his insatiable knowledge and thirst for the best beers available, in bottle and can, from across the globe.

Jamie also recognised the projected growth in online alcohol retailing, the ever-growing popularity of craft beer and an increasingly discerning customer base looking for both personalisation and a sustainable approach. According to recent data from the Office of National Statistics, the average age of a first-time father in the UK is now 33.6 years old, with Britons overwhelmingly agreeing that 30 is the ideal age to become a father, according to a 2021 survey from YouGov. This overlaps perfectly with the opportunity in online alcohol retailing where IBISWorld (2022) estimates that that of the online alcoholic market, people aged 26-40 make up the greatest share of revenue at 37.5%, followed closely by people aged 41-60 years old. Beer dads will be heavily represented in this group, and we believe will play an important role in the £16.12bn of revenue generated by the UK beer segment in 2022 (Statista, 2022). Moreover, the UK market is expected to grow at 14.96% CAGR over the next 5 years, in part supported by the popularity of craft beer, expanding product ranges from large online retailers, and consumers choosing craft or locally made beer subscriptions like Beer Dad.

Beer Dad sources high quality beers personalised to types of dads, occasions, and tastes. The focus is on going beyond the stereotypical “Beers for Him” boxes and making the online shopping experience as easy as possible. Beer Dad has removed delivery costs, and the customers chooses the courier from DPD Local, Royal Mail, Yodel and DHL.

More importantly, Beer Dad provides this specialised product and service while also being responsible. All of the packaging is sourced from Freckl. with non-toxic inks, 100% recyclable and compostable cardboard and paper, printed in the UK, and 100% plastic free. All our apparel is from Continental Clothing Co who are leaders in Fair Trade and responsibly sourced, sustainable clothing. And most importantly, 1% of all Beer Dad sales goes to Great Ormond Street Hospital to make sure we’re doing our part to support those kids and parents going through the toughest of times.

The modern Beer Dad is responsible, demands high quality, and provides outstanding service. These are the three values we started with when we cut the metaphorical ribbon and opened our online store on Friday May 6th 2022 and we will always keep this at our core.

Notes to Editor:

Beer Dad is the modern, online beer boutique, for dads who love beer, and those who want to buy beer gifts for them. Each compiled box is made up of twelve different beers selected to match the type of dad. You can also shop in the pick ‘n’ mix or Merch/Apparel section and all deliveries are free of charge to the UK mainland.

The Craft Beer Dad wants flavour forward brews with names like The Hop Monster, Breakfast Stout, and Ice-Cream Pale Ale. Old Fashioned Dad likes more traditional brews, much like the vintage clothing style he’s been sporting these last few decades. Our 9-5 Dads’ need light refreshment at the end of a long working day, with some proper bitters to pair with the Sunday roast. And let’s not forget the New Dad who has it all to come and enjoys alcohol-free beers alongside brews like “Old Man” and “Broken Dream”.

Beer Dad was founded by Jamie Percival who is a beer judge, beer sommelier, and member of the British Guild of Beer Writers.
