Greene King Pub Partners, the leased, tenanted and franchise division of Greene King, has celebrated the 40th anniversary of one of its Partners.
Couple Colin and Sue Pearce took on The Greyhound in Ixworth near Bury St Edmunds in1982.
Then aged 27, Colin left his job working as a storeman and fork-lift driver in nearby Mildenhall to operate the pub with wife Sue.
Under their stewardship, The Greyhound has been at the centre of community life in Ixworth, with a great record of raising money for charity and hosting events for the local area. It is also home to local dominoes, cribs, darts and pool teams, where league matches are regularly played.
Situated on Ixworth’s pretty high street, the pub is known for its traditional offer, featuring three bars and a central snug popular with faithful regulars from the local community. The pub also serves lunch and features a restaurant area for its dinner menu attracting guests from further afield.
In recognition of Colin and Sue’s remarkable 40 years as Partners operating The Greyhound, Greene King Pub Partners Managing Director Wayne Shurvinton presented them with a specially made plaque alongside a gift.
Greene King also brewed an anniversary beer especially for The Greyhound, which will be served in the pub so locals can mark the anniversary with Colin and Sue.
Colin and Sue Pearce, licensees for The Greyhound in Ixworth, said:
“What pubs serve may have changed a lot over the last 40 years, but they are still and always will be the hub of the local community. Be it serving locals on a regular basis or hosting events and charity fundraisers, running The Greyhound for the people of Ixworth is an absolute privilege.”
