A range of Fuller’s beers were again among the best in show at the recent CAMRA awards to unearth the best ales in the country, scooping six coveted prizes.
In the regional heats of CAMRA’s annual search for the best beer – the supreme champion – of Britain, Fuller’s 1845 and Fuller’s London Porter collected gold awards and now will go forward to contest the ultimate accolade next month at the Great British Beer Festival.
In all, five beers brewed at the Griffin Brewery in Chiswick received awards across four categories in the Champion Beer of Britain awards (London & South East Region). They were as follows:
• Gold – Fuller’s London Porter (Porter category)
• Gold – Fuller’s 1845 (Real Ale in a Bottle category)
• Silver – Fuller’s ESB (Strong Bitter category)
• Silver – Fuller’s Bengal Lancer (Real Ale in a Bottle category)
• Bronze – Fuller’s Vintage Ale (Real Ale in a Bottle category)
In addition, Fuller’s London Porter collected the silver prize in the overall Supreme Champion category for London & South East, and Fuller’s also secured gold, silver and bronze awards for the Real Ale in a Bottle category.
Receiving the awards from a CAMRA delegation, Fuller’s Head Brewer John Keeling said: “We are thrilled with the results and very proud to be able to brew beers that delight ale drinkers and enthusiasts.
“As the only brewer to have won the coveted Supreme Champion Beer of Britain with three different beers, Fuller’s has a long history with these awards and we’re looking forward to being at Olympia for the Great British Beer Festival in August.”
Dr Chris Brunton, CAMRA brewery liaison officer for Fuller’s, congratulated head brewer John Keeling and brewing manager Derek Prentice at a ceremony in the Griffin Brewery last night.
“Over many years Fuller’s have brewed consistently good beer,” said Dr Brunton, ”John Keeling is an innovative brewing director and Derek Prentice is an excellent brewing master.”
“Fuller’s is in a class of its own, and has consistently paved the way in terms of quality. CAMRA is proud to present these awards to such a top brewery, with great quality beers.”
