Great Taste Award success for McColl’s Brewery

McColl’s Brewery is proud to reveal that their ‘Let’s eat pies and talk about men’s mental health’ beer has been awarded 1-star at the 2021 Great Taste Awards.

The County Durham craft brewery collaborated with Men’s Pie Club in late 2020 to brew a traditional bitter (with a twist), with money from every can of beer sold being donated to the club. They’ve already raised over £2,500, which will enable Men’s Pie Club to continue their great work.

Great Taste is the largest and most trusted food & drink accreditation scheme. It supports and promotes food & drink producers, large and small, giving buyers and food lovers in the UK and overseas reliable recommendations for great tasting food.

Great Taste offers a unique benchmarking and product evaluation service, that encourages confidence and commercial success for quality food & drink businesses. This, in turn, generates a greater awareness for products locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Danny McColl, owner of McColl’s Brewery said “Since launching this beer, we’ve been astounded at the support its received. We’re proud to now play host to a Men’s Pie Club meet-up in our brewery taproom here in Evenwood, and this award means a great deal to our team as we strive to encourage more men to speak up about their mental health.”

The Club

Men’s Pie Club (MPC) is about local guys, making pies. Supported by Food Nation, a social enterprise based in Newcastle, MPC was developed in response to the need for increasing levels of social connections and feelings of belonging for men in the North East of England.
The History

Jamie Sadler is the brains behind Men’s Pie Club and has a knack for bringing people together through food and creativity, and wanted to thank everyone who has supported the initiative so far.

Jamie says – “Thank you to the Great Taste Award judges for the award, and to everyone who’s supported Men’s Pie Club, not just by buying the beer but from joining a group, recommending us to a friend, or spreading the word on social media.”

The Beer & The Partnership

A traditional Bitter, relatively low in alcohol at 3.6%, cold filtered through a blend of crushed black and white pepper, and purposefully created to perfectly accompany a tasty pie.

Availability

‘Let’s eat pies….’ is available in can and cask from independent venues across the UK, with cans also available via the McColl’s Brewery webshop (UK wide delivery) – www.mccollsbrewery.co.uk.
