The British Guild of Beer Writers’ annual awards have attracted twice the number of entries received for the 2011 competition. Submissions have been received not just from Guild members, but from across the world of beer and pubs journalism, with several entries from writers outside the UK.
Chair of the 2012 Awards judging panel and current Beer Writer of the Year, Ben McFarland said, “This is probably the highest-ever number of entries to our Awards and we’re delighted with the quantity and quality of work received. We’ve always seen the Awards as a way of reaching out to a broader group of communicators than just Guild members and this is proof of our success.
“Clearly, the judges will be burning the midnight oil a little longer to work through the entries this year, but I’m sure our eventual winners will be doubly proud of triumphing in such competitive field.”
Entries for this year’s Awards are now closed and the winners and runners up in seven categories, as well as the overall Beer Writer of the Year 2012, will be announced at the Guild’s Annual Dinner on 6th December at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel in Knightsbridge.
