Hogstar Juicy Lager launched for Valentine’s Day

Limited edition beer and virtual brewery tour for locked-down lovers

With couples across the country set to mark Valentine’s Day in lockdown, Surrey-based Hogs Back Brewery is launching a limited edition Hogstar Juicy Lager especially for the occasion, and offering a Virtual Brewery Tour and Beer Tasting on the day itself.

The new beer is a super-hopped version of their popular Hogstar Lager, bursting with a juicy hop finish and refreshing upfront crispiness. Juicy Lager is brewed with special lager malts, natural herb extracts and the five hops used in the original Hogstar, including home-grown Cascade from the brewery’s own hop garden. It is then dry-hopped late in the brewing process with Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra hops.

Juicy Lager is available in 330ml bottles, with distinctive ‘hog and heart’ graphics, from the Hogs Back Brewery Shop in Tongham, or online at www.hogsback.co.uk.

And for romantics wanting to escape the confines of the home via Zoom, Hogs Back is offering a Virtual Brewery Tour and Tasting, from 6.00 – 7.15 pm on Valentine’s Day. Recipients receive a box of five beers, including Juicy Lager, two glasses, a set of beer ingredients, a glass, snacks and an invitation to join the tour and tasting, conducted by members of the Hogs Back team.

Hogs Back Brewery managing director Rupert Thompson said: “Homes are going to be at the heart of Valentine’s Day celebrations this year, so we’ve created Juicy Lager to appeal to locked-down lovers wanting to toast the day with a special beer.

“Juicy Lager is packed with taste, making it ideal as a refreshing drink on its own, or to enjoy with a candlelit dinner, with its full flavours a great match for seafood or spicy dishes.”

He added, “Beer and romance have long been linked, with special ales brewed for weddings down the centuries. We’re delighted to be continuing this tradition with Juicy Lager and hope many romantics will enjoy it on Valentine’s Day.”

Hogstar Juicy Lager can be purchased from the Hogs Back website, alongside a wide range of beers in bottles, cans or draught, with free delivery on orders over £40. Customers within an approximate 30 mile radius of the brewery can order Brewery Fresh draught beer – the next best thing to a ‘pub pint’ – delivered to their door in kegs or reusable glass Snorters or Snifters. A number of new postcodes in Surrey, Berkshire, Sussex and Middlesex have recently been added to the Home Delivery service, which are listed on the website.

According to recent research*, one in five consumers are planning to make a bigger effort than usual this Valentine’s Day, particularly younger age groups. 70% plan to celebrate, and 13% intend to spend more than usual. And although the hospitality industry is closed, 25% said they would consider buying a takeout dinner from their local pub or restaurant.
