“When I’m not in the brewery” says Rob Lovatt Thornbridge’s Head Brewer, “I love climbing and cycling and since coming to Thornbridge, which is situated in the magnificent Peak District, I’ve been able to indulge these passions alongside my love of brewing beer”.
Thornbridge, which began brewing nearly ten years ago in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall now do most of their brewing at their state of art brewery in Bakewell. The brewery has gained a worldwide reputation for the quality of its beers, winning awards across the globe, and in April 2014 was crowned by the BBC as their Drinks Producer of the Year.
“A great award to win” reflects Rob “and one we are very proud of”. “My team are also proud to be involved in developing and producing a beer to celebrate L’Eroica and to celebrate the event coming to the Peak District and the UK for the first time”. “We know every rider will be blown away by the countryside and I’m sure they will enjoy their bottle of specially brewed L’Eroica beer as they cross the finish line”.
Thornbridge has joined the L’Eroica team as a main sponsor for the inaugural event. Simon Webster, Thornbridge Director, is excited about partnering with L’Eroica Britannia – “it reflects so much of what we see ourselves to be at Thornbridge – passionate about what we do, excited about breaking new ground whilst paying respect to our heritage”.
The L’Eroica beer has been brewed to reflect the event coming to Britain for the first time and reflects one of the great styles of British beer a Pale Ale. “We chose this style” says Lovatt “as it provides a showcase for a blend of classic English hops including Challenger, Fuggles and Bramling Cross that give the beer a crisp and refreshing taste – what could be better after a long bike ride”.
The L’Eroica beer will be available in bottle for a limited period from the 20th May. It will be on sale in bottle and draft in the Thornbridge Beer Tavern that will be a main feature of the Festival Village in June.
