Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park’s The Rosebery Lounge Gives Afternoon Tea a Beer Mash Up

The prestigious Rosebery Lounge at London’s exclusive Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London has given its Afternoon Tea a beer-twist with the launch of its first ever ‘Beer Afternoon Tea’.

The perfect indulgent festive day out or an amazing gift for a beer-loving friend or family member, the new offering showcases The Rosebery Lounge’s famous afternoon tea treats paired with beers from the UK, the US and Belgium.

The new menu has been put together by Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London Food and Beverage Manager Nicole Ebner, in collaboration with specialist craft and speciality beer importer Euroboozer.  See full menu below.

Martyn Railton, Euroboozer’s Managing Director, explains:

“Beer drinkers are definitely becoming more discerning and not only searching out unique beers but interesting food pairings too.  It’s been a pleasure working with Nicole to launch their new beer menu and put forward some creative matches for their famous Afternoon Tea. We’ve paired three outstanding beers to the tea whilst also providing Stiegl Goldbräu as the perfect Aperitif and Rogue 7 Hop as an ideal Digestif. We’re excited to hear what people think.”

Nicole Ebner commented:

“Whilst I’m obviously a big cake and scone person, I’ve never been a big beer fan but I was truly converted with the matches devised by Martyn at Euroboozer.  It has totally redefined my thoughts on beer so I would recommend the new Beer Afternoon Tea not just to the beer aficionados but to everyone. Whether it’s a pre-Christmas day out, New Year celebration or gift, it’s an amazing present for any beer lover.”

The new Beer Afternoon Tea costs £65 per person plus service charge and can be booked by calling reservations on 020 7201 3828 or emailing

Beer match

Thornbridge Chiron – 5.0% abv

Thornbridge Chiron is a subtle but spicy Pale Ale offering a beautiful balance of tart hops, juicy malt and tangy fruit.  Wonderfully refreshing and a great partner for the dazzling array of sandwiches, the beer works brilliantly with the Turkey and the beef fillings, while its fresh zestiness and hoppiness lift and cut through the smoked salmon, tuna, goat’s cheese and egg.

  • Mandarin mont blanc
  • Maple snow ball
  • Chocolate and caramel yule log
  • Santa’s hat
  • Passion fruit and hazelnut finger

Beer match – Kriek Boon – 4.0% abv

A traditional Belgian Lambic fruit-beer, spontaneously fermented with 400g of whole cherries added to each litre of beer, giving a slight tartness with lovely cherry and almond flavours. Chocolate and cherries are a match made in heaven so this beer is the perfect companion for the hits of chocolate, vanilla, caramel and hazelnut.

  • Freshly baked plain and cranberry scones accompanied by Devonshire clotted cream, strawberry jam and rose petal jelly
  • Battenburg Cake
  • Cinnamon and Plum Cake

Beer match – Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar – 5.6% abv

From the hazelnut capital of the world and made using Rogue Farms hazelnuts, this brew is a nutty twist on a traditional European Brown Ale with rich hazelnut aromas and flavours dominant before a smooth malty and moreish finish. Darker beers go extremely well with intensely fruity flavours so this beer works fantastically with the plum cake and jams with the hazelnuts just adding another dimension. The beer match showstopper is really with the scones though. Together, it makes the cream even creamier and the jam and the brown hazelnutty nectar combine perfectly with the jam and cranberries. One of the best food pairings we’ve ever done!
