Marston’s has become the official winner of the ‘Partnership Excellence- Commercial Award’ at the 2019 National Recycling Awards, due to their work and relationship with UK Waste Solutions Ltd (UKWSL).
From the outset of the relationship between Marston’s and UKWSL, both sides have had the same ambition and goal to reduce environmental impact. By working together and creating clear plans to review service specifications and site-specific requirements, over the past two years Marston’s have improved their on-site recycling rate from 59% to 77% and achieved zero waste to landfill in 2018 – two years ahead of the original 2020 target.
Jonathan Davies, Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator at Marston’s said: “It feels great to get this type of recognition. I think the key to everything we do is we view our relationship as a partnership. We have together designed and implemented a number of innovative projects around the management of waste, staff culture and cost reduction. Finding new ways to better our waste reduction will always be at the forefront and will continue to be a big focus for us.”
The commitment from UKWSL and Marston’s to change the working culture across the entire Marston’s estate, made up of over 1100 pubs, six breweries and multiple transport depots, means recycling is now at the top of the agenda for all employees and the segregation of waste streams has become the company ‘norm’.
The MRW National Recycling Awards 2019 brings together over 600 recycling and waste management professionals to recognise and celebrate best practice and innovation in recycling and waste management.
The National Recycling Awards took place on Thursday 27th June at the London Hilton on Park Lane
