New Article by Gary Gillman on Naming Origin of Porter

Guild member Gary Gillman writes on beer history at www.beeretseq.com and for scholarly journals. He has an article just published in the UK-based food history and food studies journal, Petits Propos Culinaires, published by Prospect Books.

The article argues for a plausible link between the name of porter, and the mixture of beers known as three threads, and ca. 1700 Spitalfields weaving terminology. It is entitled ‘A New Idea Regarding the Origin of Porter’s Name’.

It appears in PPC #119 (April 2021). Gary argues it is the first serious new idea for the naming origin of porter for a very long time.
