NEW GLASGOW CRAFT BREWERY ANNOUNCES COLLABORATION WITH GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART ALUMNI.

A new Glasgow craft brewery, Drygate Brewing Co., has invited Glasgow School of Art alumni to create a range of artwork that will appear on the labels of its core range of beers and throughout the new brewery that launches in May 2014.

The exciting collaboration sets the stage for the independent brewery, with planning permission for the company’s Wellpark base officially granted in December 2013.

Drygate invited artists to collaborate with the brewery and define the label designs for its first three beers.  The shortlisted designs will be showcased in a special, one-off event at Glasgow Print Studio on February 17th.

The brief offered to the GSA alumni focused on collaboration, with artists being asked to draw inspiration from the ingredients, the brewery and the location.

The GSA artists that collaborated with Drygate include illustrator Paul Ryding whose work ranges from screen-prints to hand rendered pencil and ink drawings; artist Emma Houlston’s striking style and love of make-believe worlds that saw Emma contributing to Mulberry’s 2013 Autumn / Winter campaign; and information designer and graphic journalist Andrew Park.

22-year-old London-based graphic designer Jack Bedford who has a passion for illustration worked with Senior Designer Linda Sweenie on Drygate designs. Linda graduated from GSA in 2007 before exhibiting at ‘D&AD New Blood,’ London. She has worked with a wide range of clients such as the BBC, Glasgow Film Festival and Belle and Sebastian.

Working together and known as part of Good Press (also the Glasgow independent bookshop) Matthew Walkerdine and Jessica Higgins are artists and designers based in the city, Good Press worked on Drygate designs with Bristol-based illustrator and printmaker Patch Keyes.

Patch Keyes and Andrew Park will be on hand at Glasgow Print Studio to talk about their work and the collaboration process.

Drygate’s Managing Director, Scott Williams, commented:

“The exhibition viewing at Glasgow Print Studio gives people an insight into what Drygate is hoping to achieve – open doors, open minds, working together to create something truly exceptional.  This collaboration is the first of many exciting things to come –creativity will be at the heart of everything we do at Drygate, especially the brewing.  Come along and experience it…there will be beer!”

Ends.
