Orbit Beers are set to release a Barrel-Aged Baltic Porter (9.7% ABV) this November as part of their Digger’s Series range, marking three years since the original collaboration with Utopian Brewery.
Independent breweries Orbit Beers and Utopian teamed up to create the original Baltic Porter in 2022. A portion was then placed into Heaven Hill oak barrels at Orbit Brewery with a house blend of Brettanomyces to age for 35 months, ready to release in autumn/winter 2025.
The limited-edition Barrel-aged Baltic Porter will be available via the Orbit Beers webshop and at the Orbit Beers Taproom as well as selected stockists.
October 2025: Orbit Beers Barrel-aged Baltic Porter 9.7% abv. Release date 12th November 2025.
Originally brewed in collaboration with Utopian Brewery in 2022, this Baltic Porter has spent just under three years maturing in oak barrels with three strains of Brettanomyces, developing into something truly unique.
The beer will be available to buy in cases of 12, individually as part of the ‘build-a-box’ option on Orbit’s webshop, and in a mixed case of barrel-aged Digger’s Series beers from Orbit Beers, which includes the Damson Blend: Cuvée de Cologne 2024, the Cuvée de Cologne 2025, and the 1861 Keeping Porter.
Tasting Notes
Barrel-aged Baltic Porter 9.7%
Pouring a rich chestnut brown with a velvety texture, the beer has a complex sourness and a distinctive, vinous character. Roasted malts from the original brew still linger on the palate, while the aroma offers toasted hazelnuts, dark chocolate, forest fruits, oak, and tobacco. You'll find layers of dried fruit, subtle spices, and a peppery finish, all wrapped in the earthy, rustic character of Brett. The result is a complex flavour profile with a dry finish that remains surprisingly light for its strength.
The Process
Orbit Beers and Utopian Brewing share a love of European-style beers, and following on from their Baltic Porter collaboration in 2022, it’s great to celebrate this barrel-aged edition together three years down the line.
The Orbit Beers brewers kept back the final barrel of Baltic Porter to be aged with a house blend of Brettanomyces (Bruxellenis, Clausenii, & Lambicus yeasts) and revisited in years to come.
The brewers were inspired to make the original porter with a complex malt profile and clean finish to showcase this particular style.
Both breweries try to use British ingredients where possible, and the majority of malts used for this beer are British grown alongside Bullion UK hops and Utopian’s house lager yeast.
“Here at Orbit Beers, we celebrate patience. The patience needed to spend hours flipping through records, hoping to find a rare gem to add to your collection. The patience needed to age beer in wood, extracting the character of the barrel or waiting for wild yeast and bacteria to perform their magic; or in bottle, enhancing the complexity and roundness of flavour. These beers are celebrated in our Digger’s Series range, with two or three limited releases throughout the year, on this occasion, just in time for the festive season.” Commented Robbie Sykes, General Manager at Orbit Beers.

Ethos
Orbit Beers are deeply rooted in European brewing traditions with a modern approach. They take classic styles and make them their own, with an eye for finesse and drinkability.
Orbit’s work is inspired by the ethos of their favourite record labels, who hold music and art above all else. Likewise, Orbit Beers accept no compromises when it comes to making their beer, winning multiple awards for their core range and infamous Tzatziki Sour.
Story
In 2012, Orbit Beers Founder Robert got in his campervan and set off on a journey to visit every single brewery in his native Scotland. It took him from the northernmost island in Shetland to the Outer Hebrides, the Scottish Borders and even his hometown of Dundee.
On a trip to discover great beer, he also discovered great people! And realized that the brewing industry was home to a wonderfully warm and passionate community that he wanted to be a part of.
With an overwhelming desire to start up a brewery of his own, Robert headed back home to South London to find a team of like-minded people who shared his enthusiasm for beer, brewing, and music. Bringing those elements together under the railway arches in Walworth, Orbit Beers was born and began to build its now award-winning portfolio of beers.
Team
Brought together by their passion for good beer, they’re a team of music lovers, vinyl collectors, DJs, and musicians with decades of experience in the brewing industry between them.
They moved into the double railway arch in the heart of Walworth, South London in 2014, and since then, they’ve remained independently owned and all their beers have been brewed and packaged on-site.
