An unlikely pairing between an athletic apparel brand and a Cumbrian brewery, has taken the street-fashion world by storm with the release of New Balance’s Made in the UK Collection. Named ‘The Real Ale Pack’, which consists of three classic New Balance styles, takes inspiration from traditional British Ale – what better place to do that than with its neighbouring local brewery, Jennings?
Hand crafted in the New Balance factory in Flimby, Cumbria, the Real Ale Pack redesigns the classic 1500, CT300 and 576 styles with key design aspects reflecting elements of British real ale. Following a legacy of ‘Made in the UK’ theme packs launched by New Balance, each limited pack refers to iconic elements in British culture and landscape.
The launch was held at Jennings Brewery on the 30th July, where 40 press from around the world were invited to a special Cumberland themed event that involved a tour of the New Balance Factory followed by a tour of Jennings Brewery. Guests were then invited to enjoy a selection of traditional pub food washed down with a selection of Jennings Cask Ales in the grounds of the Brewery.
Sarah Grave, Assistant Brand Manager at Jennings said: “Both New Balance and Jennings having strong links with Cumbrian heritage, the brewery provided the perfect place to host the launch and also highlighted the craft of Jennings Beer and New Balance, which was key to the development of the launch of the trainers.”
The Real Ale designs are named after a fictional beer that derived from inspiration from the local Jennings Brewery and their Real Ales. The ‘Ye Old Flimby Prime’, ‘The Cumbrian Red’ and ‘Chicken Foot IPA’ all reference the aesthetic of British Ales with their ale inspired colours and ale insignia branded on inserts in the trainers – it is clear to see the combined craftsmanship that have gone into the design of the trainers.
