The awards are among the trade’s biggest highlights, bringing together the leading lights in retail and rewarding The Best in The Business. Not only is the judging process one of the most rigorous and thorough of all the industry awards, but it is unique in covering the entire breadth of the take-home market, striving to reflect excellence in as many areas of the trade as possible.
The awards were presented at a ceremony on the evening of February 3, 2015 at one of London’s most prestigious venues, The Dorchester Hotel. There were 22 award categories in total with over 60 finalists.Real Ale’s Managing Director, Nick Dolan, said “We are really delighted to once again win the ‘Independent Beer Retailer of the Year’ Award. Established by Nick Dolan (Managing Director), his idea came from working on a barley farm in Norfolk, England. Nick then helped set up a The Real Ale shop on the same farm and realised that a similar concept could be established in a more urban setting, in Twickenham. Since then, Nick has gone on to be a recognised voice in the industry, judging at various beer competitions and sourcing and supplying a third of Marks and Spencer’s beer and cider range nationally.
Real Ale were awarded Drinks Retailing Awards ‘Independent Beer Retailer of the Year’ in 2013 and 2014 and ‘Best Retail Business’ at the Richmond Business Awards in 2012 and 2013. In January 2015 they were awarded ‘Celebrate British Beer – Best London Retailer’. In February 2013 they were ranked 46th in The Times, ‘Top Food Websites’. They are also listed in Time Out London ‘London’s Best Shops 2014’.
