Every year, Sharp’s Brewery hosts its ‘design your own beer’ competition giving employees, regardless of brewing experience, an opportunity to design and brew their own beer at the pilot plant brewery. This year’s 30 entrants were reviewed by head brewer, Aaron McClure, who judged recipes based on creativity, style and use of unique ingredients.
The competition’s 2019 winner, Callum White, has developed a sweet and golden Banamber Ale, perfectly capturing the creative spirit and innovation taking place at Sharp’s. A subtle banana flavour cuts through the sweet and balanced taste of the dark amber ale – Callum’s creation uses roasted malts to complement the essence of sweet banana. At 23, Callum is the youngest member of the brewing team at Sharp’s, where he has worked for 12 months.
Aaron McClure, Head Brewer at Sharp’s said: “I loved judging the beer design competition this year and was thrilled to crown Callum as our winner. We have such a dynamic and enthusiastic young brewing team down in Cornwall, so it’s great to showcase their skill and creativity in the annual competition. At Sharp’s, our commitment to developing our people to be the best they can be is the most rewarding part of my job. The chance to release your own beer at a public event is any young brewer’s dream come true, and I’m sure we’ll see many more exciting creations from the team in years to come!”
Banamber Ale will be available at Padstow Christmas Festival, 5-8th December, and at a small number of local on trade outlets in Cornwall.
