The Richmond Club, Richmond’s first private member’s club, has won Best Start-Up at the Richmond Chamber of Commerce’s (RCC) Richmond Business Awards (RBA) 2021. The awards aim to strengthen the economy, recognising what is great about Richmond businesses and the impact they have on its community.

The Best Start-Up award was collected by The Richmond Club’s owner Maureen Heffernan at the Awards Gala Ball on 8 July 2022 at Twickenham Stadium. The event that sees businesses from around Richmond come together to celebrate each other’s success, is a highlight in RCC’s calendar.

Maureen Heffernan, Founder of The Richmond Club, said: “We’re honoured to have won this award for Best Start-Up business. Thank you to all our amazing members and of course our dedicated team who work tirelessly both out front and behind the scenes to create the perfect atmosphere for our members. It’s been a brilliant first year bringing to life the vision we had for the club, we have so many plans for the future that we can’t wait to share.”

Opening post pandemic restrictions in April 2021 meant overcoming new obstacles to achieve the goal of bringing a social hub to the borough, with a versatile and inviting space providing the perfect backdrop in which to work, network, or relax with colleagues and friends.

The independent Richmond Business Award judges, said: “The Best Start-up winner 2021 is a sterling example of a business created in the midst of the pandemic; a testament as to what can be done with vision, resilience and experience.”

Heffernan, who also received Highly Commended in the Award category of Best Female Entrepreneur, opened The Richmond Club because she felt it was a space Richmond needed.

Anne Newton, Deputy Chair London Chambers of Commerce and Chief Executive Richmond Chamber of Commerce, said: “To start a business in the midst of lockdown is one thing and that in itself is very brave, but to succeed is quite another. Huge congratulations to Maureen Heffernan and all the team who have made The Richmond Club such a success.“

The Richmond Club offers a variety of events for members and guests from a Supper Club with a twist, an experiential Cinema Club, to a top-class Comedy Club. Always looking for more innovative ways to serve the community they have just obtained a wedding licence to allow couples to marry in the venue, as they continue to create new ways of growing the business.
