Theatre of Wine Vertical Stiegl Sonnenkonig Barrel Aged Beer Tasting

Date: Friday 3rd December 7:30pm – £30

Location: Theatre of Wine, 556 High Road Leytonstone, E11 3DH

Stiegl Brewery, famous for more than 500 years in the Austrian town of Salzburg, is one of Austria’s top independent breweries making a range of top quality continental beer styles.

This evening we will delve into their illustrious archives tasting one-off vintage beer releases of their Sonnenkonig range from 2015 through to 2020, that were made in Stiegl’s ‘Hausbier Brewery’ where small batch seasonal and yearly specials are lovingly created by Markus Trinker, their Creative Head Brewer who also leads the farm brewery Stiegl-Gut Wildshut.

We are very proud to say that this is the first time a vertical tasting of these beers will be taking place in the UK, fine artisanal styles ranging from Wit to Double IPA to Scotch Ale and Russian Imperial Stout. These beers are extraordinarily rare, with the 2015 release no longer even available in Stiegl’s own tasting cellar stocks.

We will be guided through the illustrious range of the Sun King by Martyn Railton, founder of specialist beer importer Euroboozer, and it is shaping up to be the beer highlight of the year for us!

  • Euroboozer are also hoping to present the first UK tasting of the latest 2021 release, Stiegl Sonnonkonig VIII, a Tokaji Barrel Aged Saison, logistics and transport permitting!

About Stiegl

The Stiegl brewery grew out of what was a popular beer-making guesthouse called the ‘Bräuhaus an der Gstätten’. It was first mentioned in written records on the 16th June 1492 and was located in Salzburg, Austria.

Over the past 500-plus years, the brewery has seen everything from immense joy and celebrations to fires, war and economic turmoil but throughout, it has remained, playing a huge part in the city and country’s culture and history. Even Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart guzzled a few Stiegl beers in the 18th century.

Most famously known for its multi award-winning Stiegl Goldbräu beer, Stiegl utilises a wealth of brewing experience combined with some of the most high-tech brewing equipment, processes and procedures in Europe, whilst benefiting from the finest Austrian raw materials often cultivated in the brewery’s own fields.
