Thornbridge, the award winning brewery from Bakewell, has announced a new edition to its growing pub estate with a partnership lease on the Cross Scythes, Derbyshire Lane, Sheffield. The lease, their first with Punch Taverns is based on an 10 year, free of tie arrangement.
Simon Webster, Thornbridge’s Chief Operating Officer, said “The deal was completed in a very positive way with both sides keen to make the best of a site that has underperformed for some years.” Punch will invest £200k in the refurbishment designed make the1930s pub a destination pub for the local community.
Thornbridge recently received the accolade from The Publican magazine of “Best Pub Operating Microbrewer”. “An award”, says Webster, “we were delighted with and highlights how focused we are on running quality pubs that, even in difficult times can still attract customers wanting a good community local. The opening of the Cross Scythes will complete a very busy two year period for us in taking on new pubs and bars across our brewery heartland and providing excellent outlets for our beers”.
Richard Woodward, senior regional operations manager of Punch Taverns said “We were aware of Thornbridge’s growing reputation as, not only a quality brewer, but also as a pub operator. Our joint investment is considerable but backs our belief that good pubs, run in a professional way can prove to be successful and we look forward to working with Thornbridge on the Cross Scythes and ahead to possible further agreements”.
The Cross Scythes will be managed by Thornbridge’s Pubs Operations manager Mike Pidgeon. It will reopen after an extensive refurbishment on August 2nd.
