‘X’ marks the spot as Purity launches limited edition birthday celebration beer

XPurity Brewing Company has launched a limited edition beer to mark its 10th birthday and kick off a year of celebrations.

X is a 6.2% bourbon cask aged Rye IPA, a celebration of the finer things in life, and an ale which has been dedicated to the brewery’s fans.

The limited edition beer, which comes in 750ml corked bottles, has been brewed with champion malts; Maris Otter, Rye, Crystal Rye and Cara to create a warming copper orange colour; hopped with Pilgrim, Chinook, Galaxy & Simcoe to give a lingering floral bitterness and, as a final flourish, aged for six months in bourbon casks to create a warming finish.

There will be a limited run of 800 bottles, available at the brewery shop and online at www.bottleshack.co.uk.

Speaking about the beer, Purity MD, Paul Halsey, said: “X is really special for us as it marks a massive milestone for the company, having reached ten fantastic years and still growing. That is why we are dedicating it to all of the people who have supported us over the years and helped to make us who we are today. We love presenting X in a 750ml bottle as it gives a real sense of celebration when you pop the cork on a fine barrel aged beer. We were delighted by how well last year’s limited edition beer Gnarly sold and the feedback we received.”

Purity owners, Paul Halsey and James Minkin, launched the brewery at Upper Spernal Farm in 2005, when they brewed, sold and delivered the beer themselves. As demand grew, the pair recruited now Director of Brewing, Flo Vialan, and built up a dedicated team of passionate people to keep up on orders of Purity’s sustainably brewed beers.

Having started out with just two cask ales, Pure Gold and Pure UBU, the portfolio has now grown to include Mad Goose, Saddle Black, and craft keg beers Longhorn IPA and Lawless Lager.

Purity has been rewarded for its dedication to brewing quality and consistent beers with multiple national awards from CAMRA and SIBA, and international awards at the International Beer Challenge and World Beer Awards, sure signs that it is continuing to satisfy the tastes of its discerning and loyal fan base.

Paul added: “A major part of our development over the last ten years has focused on how to achieve absolute consistency and pure quality, and X is a great way of showcasing the skill of our brew team. It’s a stunning beer for our fans and a real testament to the quality coming out of our brew house. It shows just how far we have come as a brewery and how far we want to keep on pushing, not only our own beers but the beer market too.”

In an exciting year for the brewery, Purity’s ethic of ‘brewing with a conscience’ has seen it named UK Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year, whilst the growth of the brand and the quality of the beers has also seen the brewer announce a long-term partnership with Wasps Rugby and Ricoh Arena, as well as continuing its relationships with Coventry Rugby and a number of regional music festivals, including Mostly Jazz, Moseley Folk and the Lunar Festival.
