Young’s London Stout ‘amongst best Stouts in the world’ with medal win at International Brewing Awards

Young’s London Stout has been recognised as one of the best Stouts in the world at the International Brewing Awards, adding further weight to the beer’s popularity and taste satisfaction.

The popular Stout, brewed by Charles Wells, which already offers stockists the second-best cash rate of sale* and achieves greater product satisfaction than Guinness**, can now add a Silver Medal from the International Brewing Awards to its list of accolades.

Speaking at the award ceremony at Guildhall on Wednesday 26th April 2017, Ian Jones, Head Brewer at Charles Wells, who own the Young’s beer brand, said: “Of course we’re delighted to receive a Silver Medal in the International Brewing Awards 2017 as it justifies what we already know, Young’s London Stout is a great beer. Most drinkers only tend to be aware of one type of Stout, but as more varieties within the beer style appear on the market, drinkers are starting to see that Stout has a vast array of flavours within its own style, and Young’s London Stout with its oat-based brew offers a creamier and more satisfying Stout than most will have tried.”

To celebrate the award, Charles Wells will now be sending all Young’s London Stout stockists a pump-clip crowner to highlight themedal to their customers. The Young’s London Stout Taxi will also be touring selected sites across the UK throughout the summer.

The Stout market is worth £834m, with sales up +1.8%, now growing ahead of Ale and Lager. Young’s London Stout was launched in the On-Trade in Feb 2014, with strong results:

  • Greater product satisfaction vs. Guinness
  • YLS has the second best £ROS behind Guinness
  • Over 780,000 pints sold in last 12 months

Young’s London Stout was up against 90 entries from Seven countries in the Dark Beer category.
