The Kiwis are Back!

February 2020 sees a second year of a month-long celebration of New Zealand beer on the UK’s shores with even more breweries, beer, events and celebrations across the UK.

Including a 1 February launch party at All Good Beer in Hackney Wick, and celebrations on New Zealand’s national day of 6 February, Waitangi Day, drinkers across the UK will get the opportunity to take part in the second month-long celebration of New Zealand craft beer!

The month showcases familiar names in the UK like 8 Wired and Yeastie Boys, while breweries like Sawmill and Deep Creek will be making their first forays to these shores. More UK breweries will also be involved, and with the promise of 120+ different beers during the month, the very best of New Zealand’s independent craft beer, brewers and ingredients will be showcased. Events will bring a taste of the land of the long white cloud to venues across the UK with Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and London confirmed.

However, it doesn’t stop there. As well as a nationwide event schedule there will be special one-off beers, collaborations between New Zealand and British breweries, in keg, cask, and can plus UK breweries will be getting involved with their own NZ themed beers. There will be competitions and prizes throughout the month, as well as online and in-store specials from participating stockists.

Commenting on the second year of NZ Beer month organiser, Todd Nicolson of the New Zealand Beer Collective, said: “Last year people really embraced NZ Beer month, it was a huge beery party that left drinkers and us wanting more! Growing interest and involvement across the UK beer scene and starting planning earlier for 2020 means we will have double the events and supporting venues in more cities and towns. We will be showcasing an even more diverse line up of beer and events. Like our release of a Lamington Cake Stout and our planned NZ Beer and Poetry event”

Adding her thoughts on the second year of this project, award-winning beer writer Melissa Cole, author of four books, including The Beer Kitchen and soon-to-be-released Little Book of Lager, said: “There really is a magical element about New Zealand beers, from the use of native fruit and hops to the genuine love and passion with which they are brewed, in some of the most beautiful surroundings in the world. This means drinkers are in for a massive treat at a series of events up and down the land that show beer off to its social lubricant best.”

Notes to editors:

Home to one of the hottest and trend-setting independent beer scenes in the world, New Zealand has over 200 breweries among a population of 4.5 million people (around twice as many breweries per capita as London). It boasts some of the most sought after hops in the world – with a unique terroir that produces similar flavours to its world famous Sauvignon Blanc – and, combined with an obsession on quality and that well known kiwi ingenuity, it produces some of the very best beer on the planet.

Established in 2014, the New Zealand Beer Collective is a UK based importer and distributor of New Zealand beer. Connecting beer from the best NZ independent breweries with beer lovers in the UK and Europe.
