Beer Attraction, Italian craft and special beers are pink

Italy has the largest percentage of female beer drinkers in Europe

There’s an increasing number of female Beer Sommeliers and tasters and now female Beer Chefs are also appearing on the Italian scene

Rimini expo centre from 17th – 20th February 2018.

At Beer Attraction, the expo appointment with the craft beer sector organized by Italian Exhibition Group at Rimini from 17th to 20th February, the spotlight will be on the conference “Beer with a female touch”. Although with a lower per capita consumption (14 litres), Italy is the country with the highest percentage of female beer drinkers in Europe: 6 out of 10 (Doxa – AssoBirra survey). But planet beer seen from the ladies’ point of view also shows an increasing number of female beer trade members. They have been represented for some years by “Le Donne della Birra” Association, which this year will participate again in Beer Attraction with the first workshop dedicated to beer brewed by ladies. On Sunday 18th February the workshop will give participants the possibility of discovering the production, marketing and communication policies of some of the most dynamic businesswomen in the Italian beer world.

The female touch in the beer sector is also felt in other professional categories, such as that of beer sommeliers and tasters. There is an increasing number of female experts on the scene. About fifteen of them are members of “Le Donne della Birra” association. They include Arianna Pellegrini, the first Italian Female Beer Sommelier, trained at London’s Institute of Brewing and Distilling, and Michela Cimatoribus, a taster trained with Unionbirrai and authoress of the book Fatti di birra – Come innamorarsi di una bionda, una rossa e una bruna, which will be available on the association’s stand at Beer Attraction.

Another role making a name for itself on the Italian food & beverage scenario is that of the professional female beer chef, specialized in cooking with beer. A trailblazer was Caroline Noel, of Belgian origin but resident in Italy and one of the founders of “Le Donne della Birra”. The association’s members also include chef Elena Pisano.
