BISHOP TRIES HIS HAND AT BREWING

A special beer for Leeds Parish Church becoming Leeds Minster

The Bishop of Ripon and Leeds, Rt Revd John Packer, will take part in starting the brewing of a special beer to celebrate Leeds Parish Church becoming a Minster. Leeds Brewery has undertaken the task of brewing and believes that the assistance of Bishop John, together with his blessing, will add to the distinction of the drink.

Called Minster Ale, it will start life in the brewery’s specialist plant at the Brewery Tap in New Station Street. This has a capacity of 2½ barrels and when the brewing process has finished the beer will be racked into ten firkins (nine gallon casks). These will be distributed to Leeds Brewery pubs and pubs within the parish as well as to the church.

The brew will commence at 9.00am in the Brewery Tap on Wednesday 15th August to which representatives of the media are invited. Services to celebrate Leeds Parish Church becoming a Minster will take place on Sunday 2nd September at 10.30am and 3.00pm.
