The Orkney Brewery has scooped a host of awards, including a prestigious business development accolade, at a major national beer competition.

The brewery’s 5.0 per cent Wayfarer IPA took Bronze in the Champion Strong Bitters category of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Beer X event in Sheffield, with its 4.5 per cent Golden Amber picking up a Bronze in the Champion Speciality Beers section. The brewery’s 4.0 per cent Northern Light ale was also awarded a Bronze in the Champion Beer in Keg category.

Meanwhile, in the SIBA Business Awards competition – which formed part of the Beer X event – the Orkney Brewery came away with a Best Business Development prize.

Norman Sinclair, managing director of the Orkney Brewery’s parent company, Sinclair Breweries Ltd, said: “We’re really overwhelmed by this national level success. To come away with three bronze medals from a competition of such importance is quite an achievement for us, and an enormous honour. We’re also delighted to have picked up an award for business development as it reflects all the hard work done by everyone within the company to make the Orkney Brewery a success – and a high quality brand that Orkney can be proud of.”

The SIBA event is hailed as the largest conference and beer festival for brewers and retailers in the UK.
