Steve Sharples has been graciously awarded a British Empire Medal in the 2021 New Years Honours List by HM Queen

The BEM has been awarded for his efforts to improve the lives of the elderly people  within the Stourbridge Community – This included running a monthly “Tea Party” complete with speakers – as well as other events to enhance the the health and wellbeing of all levels of the community.

Steve was chair of a group that organised an annual flower show for adults with disabilities and learning difficulties, described by one regular attender as the best day of the year. He also worked with local companies to solve polution problems which affected the lives of local residents.

Steve was awarded the Patient Champion Star by the Dudley Clinical Commissioning group in recognition for his services locally and involvement in a number of NHS working parties.

As a result of this work he was invited to speak at a prestigious conference in Paris on the topic of patient participation in their health care. This is an annual symposium run by the French equivalent of the NHS.
