THE latest addition to the Stable Bar & Restaurants opened its doors to the public last Easter weekend. The new restaurant is located in Plymouth’s Sutton Harbour and is the eighth location for The Stable. The cathedral to cider and pizza has created 20 new jobs and prides itself on bringing a delicious range of freshly cooked pizza, based on local ingredients, and a range of over 80 ciders to the Devon city.
The Stable is the brainchild of Richard and Nikki Cooper and Richard’s brother Andy Briggs. The concept started life when Richard and Nikki bought The Bull Hotel in Bridport and decided to convert an old stable adjacent to the property into a pizza and cider restaurant. Their ethos remains unchanged – a commitment to the best quality, local ingredients with interesting and unusual topping combinations on their organic sourdough base. Following the success of that first restaurant, the couple have since opened six more in locations including Bath, Bristol, Newquay, Falmouth, Weymouth and Poole
Nikki Cooper said: “The opening weekend was a great success and the team worked really hard to finish The Stable in time for Easter. We thought it would be busy as there was a lot of excitement building up on social media but with the sun coming out and the magnificent views over the harbour, people just flocked in. We easily achieved our covers target and it was great to welcome hundreds of locals and tourists through the door.”
The waterside venue will host regular music nights and the popular Tuck in Tuesday will also be starting from 7 April – with selected pizzas, side salad and a drink for only £10. The Stable is famous for naming some of its handmade pizzas after local historical figures or places of interest and the Plymouth site is no exception. Pizzas on offer include:
The Sir Francis Drake Herb roasted potato, Ticklemore Devon blue cheese, roasted Spanish onions, English spinach, our fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella for just £10.50
The Barbican Blaster Spicy local chopped pork, Naga chillies, garlic, red onion, basil leaves, mushrooms, our fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella, for just £11.00.

The Plymouth Stable is the eighth and latest addition to the Stable family. The story began in Bridport, Dorset in 2009 when Richard and Nikki Cooper converted a beautiful 16th century stable block at the rear of their boutique hotel. Along with Richard’s brother Andy, The Stable Executive Head Chef and co-founder, they came up with the idea to turn the space into a cider house, serving gourmet Dorset pizzas that were inspired from Andy’s decade chefing in Australia. The Stable was born out of a desire to showcase all of the great producers found in the South West, and how better to do so than with cider and pizza?
